A stunning new home in a sensitive location, overlooking Maer Lake Nature Reserve

The Hide is a stunning new family home in Cornwall that sits comfortably within a small hamlet of historic cottages, adjacent to the Grade II* Listed Maer Barn.

Our clients’ brief was for a light and airy open-plan home that took full advantage of its elevated position and panoramic views.  In response we evolved a design that not only reflected how our clients wanted to live as a family, but would allow the house to assimilate into its rural setting.

Two wings angle outwards from a central core, which contains a generous double height void to maximise natural light and create light and airy living spaces.

Floor to ceiling windows reinforce the connection with the gently sloping gardens beyond, whilst horizontal and vertically aligned slot windows frame and capture views of the surrounding landscape.

Low angled, mono–pitched zinc roofs contain the impact of the structure and their design mimics the undulating contours of the site when viewed from higher vantage points.

Natural stone and timber cladding add context to the exterior, whilst internally, extensive use of bespoke joinery complements the overall quality of design.

Regional Winner of the LABC South West Building Excellence Award for ‘Best Individual New Home’.
