Internal remodelling and a visually striking glazed addition to a Grade II Listed Manor House

Internal remodelling and a visually striking glazed addition to a Grade II Listed Manor House

Forming part of the overall remodelling of this Grade II Listed, Arts and Crafts-inspired manor house near Falmouth, we designed a contemporary structural glass extension to replace an outdated conservatory.

A carefully considered approach was required given the historically significant  setting of the extension.  As a result, we worked closely with Conservation Officers to develop a solution that was sympathetic to the original house and its heritage.

The new frameless insertion sits on the footprint of the previous structure and is constructed using an innovative glazing system.  The pitched roofs mirror the adjoining roofline and respect the architecture of the existing building.

Flooded with daylight, the dramatic transitional space provides a spacious extended living area that connects with the gardens beyond.

Locally quarried granite and natural lead panels complement the sensitive new structure, whilst echoing the traditional building fabric of the adjoining house.

Meticulous internal renovations included a variety of highly bespoke items of decoration and joinery, including wooden parquet flooring and hand-painted, Japanese silk mural wallpaper.
