A visually striking, contemporary, glazed addition to a Grade II Listed Manor House

A visually striking, contemporary, glazed addition to a Grade II Listed Manor House

Integral to the remodelling and reimagining of this Grade II Listed, Arts and Crafts-inspired manor house near Falmouth was the addition of a frameless, structural glass extension.

Designed to replace an existing conservatory that had fallen into disrepair, the new extension responds thoughtfully to its historic setting.  As a result of the sensitive nature of the extension, we worked closely with Conservation Officers to develop a solution that was sympathetic to the original house and its heritage.

Sitting on the footprint of the existing structure, the new insertion acknowledges the adjoining manor by using pitched roofs to retain the rhythm of the roofline.  Despite its distinctly contemporary appearance, the carefully designed extension allows the glass structure to assimilate without overshadowing the Grade II Listed building.

Constructed using an innovative glazing system, the new extension is flooded with daylight and has created a spacious extended living area.  The floor to ceiling glass is both practical and beautiful, framing views of the charming gardens beyond.

The glass is complemented by locally quarried granite and natural lead panels, which echo the traditional building fabric of the historic manor.

Within the manor house itself, meticulous internal renovations included a variety of highly bespoke items of decoration and joinery, including wooden parquet flooring and hand-painted, Japanese silk mural wallpaper.
