Located on the dramatic North Cornwall coast, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), we took on an ambitious client brief and delivered a remarkable, contemporary house. A genuine passion for sustainability, the environment and ecology was the driving-force that led the design and sculpted a modern family home of its time – one which meets the needs of our clients now, and for the foreseeable future.

The conceptual ethos centred around an inert awareness of sacred geometry, through both the building form and its position within the local and wider landscape, to capture natural daylight, coastal aspects and generate private intimate relationships with surrounding garden spaces.

Constructed using a selection of natural and healthy building materials, including Hempcrete blocks, the dwelling’s unique approach to sustainability employs the latest technologies and philosophies, whilst utilising traditional building methods and techniques and, wherever possible, locally sourced materials and craftmanship.

Design solutions included:

  • Wood-fibre boarding for the internal walls
  • Eco-cork insulation and render boards
  • Lime render and plaster throughout
  • Concrete free substrates to all external landscaping
  • A natural pool in the gardens, aiding in the diverse ecology of the property
  • Use of a Ground Source Heat Pump for the hot water and central heating
  • A PV array with associated battery storage
  • Promoting native landscaping species growth to support the local ecology and environment

The construction work was carried out by Holsworthy building contractors JE Stacey & Co. Ltd.
