Sympathetic Replacement Extensions, St Agnes

Adding a traditional extension to this distinctive Victorian Villa in the heart of St Agnes improved both its accessibility and appearance, as well as creating valuable living spaces.

Previous unattractive and badly constructed additions to this historic stone-built house were not only out of keeping with its Conservation Area setting, but they had fallen into disrepair and were no longer fit for purpose.

Our client’s brief asked us to design with accessibility in mind and include provision for a lift between ground and first floor.  As a result, our focus was to consider the function and flow of the rooms, creating family-friendly living spaces and a spacious first floor bedroom suite.

Further accessibility improvements at lower ground floor level included the insertion of glazed doors which connect with improved external access and terrace areas.

Constructed of vernacular stone, the new addition blends with the existing house and its unique location and is the perfect balance between characterful and contemporary living.
