Transformative Renovation and Extensions, Widemouth Bay

A great example of how a building can be reimagined and transformed through materiality and design.

A great example of how a building can be reimagined and transformed through materiality and design.

The Remodelling and Extension of an outdated and tired 1960’s bungalow created a contemporary, four bedroom, family home within walking distance of Widemouth Bay.

Our client’s brief was for a family-friendly beach house with a light and airy open floor plan that reflected their coastal-living lifestyle.

As part of the overall reorganisation of rooms, the extension provides a new entrance to the house that has improved the circulation and flow.  This new addition, which also accommodates a master bedroom with private mezzanine study space, is distinct from but complementary to the existing building.

The insertion of floor to ceiling doors creates indoor-outdoor reception and dining areas and externally, new timber cladding and white render reflect the local vernacular and integrate the house into its littoral setting.

An outdoor shower adds the finishing touch for washing off the sand after a day at the beach.
