Located on the western edge of the village, this new church in rural Dartmoor will replace an existing building on a nearby site which is in a constrained position and has reached the end of its life.

The new church is designed to be primarily a facility for religious worship and prayer, but also a place for the community to host weddings, funerals and social events. Accessibility, energy performance and sustainability are key elements in creating an inclusive building that will meet the future needs of the community.

With a desire to be welcoming, inspiring and enduring, the direct and indirect natural light forms an integral part of the architecture, confirming the church’s sense of identity. A graceful processional route enhances the connection to the outside world.

Acoustics are fundamental to the design in order to meet the varied demands of a place of worship, ranging from quiet contemplation and prayer to religious ceremonies requiring the use of audio visual equipment.

In addition to the main worship space, suitable for up to 50 people, the design includes a Sanctuary, Baptistry, Sacristy, Church Hall, Children’s Liturgy room, Clergy Office and ancillary accommodation such as kitchen, WC’s and storage space.
