Practice History

The Bazeley Partnership are Cornwall Architects based in Bude, and one of the region’s longest running Architecture Practices providing architectural services in Cornwall and Devon. The original partnership was founded in 1908 in Penzance by C.R. Corfield, who merged with two other Cornish Practices  to become Bazeley, Miller-Williams and Corfield.

Geoffrey Bazeley was a prominent Modernist Architect  born in Penzance in 1906.  In 1935, he was commissioned to build Tregannick House where he ran his Architect’s Practice.  This incredible building has been described as ” one of the best Modern Movement houses in the West of England.”

In 2001, the Practice merged with the Jonathan Ball Practice when the celebrated Eden Project Architect retired and the company became The Bazeley Partnership. It was incorporated as a Limited Company in 2012 and its present Director is Martin Back.

The Partnership is an RIBA Chartered Practice, experienced in design and development in Cornwall, Devon and the South-West and blends distinctive and innovative design with sustainable and functional buildings. We are members of the Association for Sustainable Buildings (AECB) and advocate Humane Architecture; a philosophy which strives to support and improve the human and environmental condition.

Partners of The Practice have been the recipients of numerous awards in Cornwall and Devon over its history, including the CPRE/RIBA Award for the rebuilding of St. Michaels Church, Newquay and a RIBA President’s Silver Medal Nomination for Martin Back in 2003.

The Bazeley Partnership won the LABC South West Award for Building Excellence for The Sea House, Cornwall (2010) and received a commendation from the LABC for St. Mewan Primary School. In 2009, it was shortlisted for both the Civic Trust Awards and the Forum for the Built Environment Awards for the design and build of the Exmouth RNLI Lifeboat Station, Devon.

Founded in 1908, The Bazeley Partnership is one of the region’s longest running architectural practices.
