The Fort, Wadebridge
The Fort is an ongoing project that involves a replacement dwelling in Wadebridge designed by our Architects at The Bazeley Partnership. The stunning site sits on the waterfront of Little Petherick Creek, part of the River Camel tidal estuary, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The existing dwelling on the site is an extremely dated 1930s bungalow, very limited in its provision of accommodation. Due to the form of construction, lack of building services, its poor condition and restricted size it is only suitable for occupation for limited periods through the year.
Our client wished to replace the existing structure with a replacement dwelling that will exceed current regulations in terms of energy efficiency and thermal properties through the use of ‘fabric first’ construction methods combined with renewable on-site technologies. It was of the utmost importance to our client that the ‘spirit’ of the place was retained and enhanced through the new building.
The design proposed by our Architects is of high architectural merit and will enhance the immediate setting. The architectural appearance, scale and choice of materials of the proposed design have strong influences from the immediate waterside context and the wider context of architecture within North Cornwall.
